Collared storage jar with a tall, cylindrical foot. Hand-built using fine white clay and coated with a thin interior glaze. The piece was fired in a carefully controlled atmosphere alternating between reducing and oxidising phases.
This vessel is inspired by the most iconic Cycladic marble vases of the 3rd millennium BCE, commonly found in prehistoric tombs across the Aegean islands. Its form echoes the elegant lines of these ancient artefacts while its name—kandila—derives from its resemblance to the oil lamps still used in Greek Orthodox churches today.
