Geometric-inspired bird-shaped plate from Eretria, late 8th century BCE
This hand-built, bird-shaped small serving plate draws its form from a distinctive lid of a Geometric jug from Eretria in Euboea, dating to the Late Geometric period. Plain and undecorated, it preserves the sculptural simplicity of the original, here enlarged and adapted to modern aesthetic and functional criteria.
Crafted in glazed stoneware and fired at 1150°C under mixed oxidising–reducing conditions, it was shaped using the traditional coiling technique.
