BG Low Calyx Cup
Black-glazed calyx cup with incised decoration, based on a Hellenistic prototypes from the Athenian Agora, late 2nd–early 1st century BCE.
A low, footless cup with a broad flaring rim, concave upper wall and gently rounded body. A fine incised groove marks the transition between the plain upper section and the lower wall, which is decorated with a calyx pattern of stylised radiating leaves.
The form recalls the opening petals of a flower, from which the calyx cup takes its name. Its compact proportions, dark glazed surface and restrained incised decoration reflect the refined simplicity of Hellenistic tableware.
