Black glaze and Black-figure Lekythos
Black-Glazed and Black-Figure Lekythos
Inspired by Attic lekythoi of the late 6th and early 5th centuries BCE, this handcrafted ceramic vessel reproduces a distinctive decorative style represented by ancient examples, including a lekythos in the Louvre Museum (LL 99) and another offered at Sotheby’s in 2024.
Its elegant black-glazed body is complemented by ornamental bands of linked palmettes, dotted patterns and tongues, faithfully reflecting the decorative vocabulary of the original vessels.
Handcrafted and decorated at the THETIS workshop in Athens, the lekythos combines traditional craftsmanship with experimentally reconstructed ancient Greek ceramic techniques, including the characteristic three-stage firing process responsible for its lustrous black glaze.
