Black-glaze calyx cup decorated with a white-painted nymph surrounded by vine leaves, inspired by Gnathia pottery of the 4th century BCE. The figure floats freely against the deep black surface, creating a striking visual contrast. The white areas are applied before firing, with details rendered in diluted clay-based paint or ochres, while additional colours—such as pink—are organic and applied after firing. The decoration reflects the layered technical processes and refined aesthetic of late Classical South Italian workshops.
