Celebrating 25 Years of THETIS Authentics LTD
As we welcome the New Year, it’s also time to celebrate a major milestone for THETIS Authentics LTD, the parent company of ATTIC BLACK: 25 years since its establishment! While I admit to occasionally skipping the “proper” celebration year, this moment feels perfect for reflecting on our journey and achievements.
Founded in November 1999 and operational since June 2000, THETIS Authentics began as part of the first GSRT program supporting Women’s Entrepreneurship. Our initial vision was ambitious: to revive ancient craftsmanship and create timeless pieces that connect the past with the present. In parallel, THETIS (Science and Techniques for Art History Conservation) specialized in non-destructive analytical methods to address questions of authenticity and provenance for ancient artifacts and works of art in museums and private collections.
Over time, THETIS developed niche expertise in ancient ceramic technology. Our recent and ongoing projects focus on studying ancient and traditional ceramics to document and reproduce them, bridging ancient techniques with contemporary understanding. This dual focus on craftsmanship and research enriches our work and highlights the enduring significance of ancient methods in the modern world.
More than a business, THETIS Authentics LTD represents a shared vision of reviving and celebrating the beauty of ancient Greek art. This milestone is deeply personal for me, as I dedicate it to the memory of my late husband and partner, Ion Siotis, whose vision and support were integral to our success. Alongside my physical family, the incredible team at ATTIC BLACK has become an extended family—a true testament to what can be achieved through passion and collaboration.
Our work is characterized by a fascinating interplay between ancient techniques and modern technology. From embracing the “new technology” of the late 1990s to incorporating today’s AI tools, we continually explore innovative ways to enrich our craft while remaining rooted in tradition. This unique approach has sparked the interest of a global audience, including young professionals and tech enthusiasts drawn to this harmonious blend of old and new.
As we look to the future, we draw inspiration from the timeless wisdom captured in ancient artifacts, like the red-figure owl mug (κύπελον) from the Louvre Museum. Its playful scene reminds us that knowledge is life’s greatest armor—a guiding motto throughout our 25-year journey.
Thank you for being part of this adventure. Here’s to the next chapter of THETIS Authentics!
Warm regards,
Eleni Aloupi-Siotis
